piqlFilm

Store your critical data on specialised film designed to last 1000+ years. When digital storage fails, piqlFilm endures.

piqlFilm

Photosensitive Silver Halide Technology

piqlFilm combines cutting-edge photosensitive technology with the proven longevity of film. Your data is encoded at microscopic resolution (1180 line pairs per mm) onto nano silver halides on ultra-stable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) base material, creating a digital physical backup impervious to technological obsolescence, electromagnetic pulses, and data degradation. The piqlFilm accommodates all digital information types and formats without discrimination. Databases, video files, photographs, documents, and audio recordings can all be preserved with equal fidelity on this versatile storage medium. As a write-once-read-many (WORM) storage solution, piqlFilm serves the critical need for archiving valuable information requiring safe storage across multiple decades.

CAPABILITIES

Capacity of one piqlFilm

1000+ years

Expected longevity

890 kGy

Proven to survive extreme radiation levels

Protected for Perpetuity

Years of accelerated aging and comprehensive testing by third party laboratories have validated piqlFilm's resistance to both internal degradation and external threats. The piqlFilm is tolerant to changes in temperatur and humidity, but the colder and dryer, and the more stable, the better, - and the liftime of the data will be extended. The piqlFilm is protected by the piqlBox, made and tested in Norway under the same scrutiny as piqlFilm.

Mind Blowing Longevity. Designed for Immortality

piqlFilm is revolutionary when it comes to longevity. With more than 15 years of accelerated aging and longevity testing, we now can document have data can be stored on piqlFilm for more than 1000 years as long as it is physically kept in reasonable conditions. Quick-facts

What is the max data capacity?

The piqlFilm has a total storage capacity of 120GB per film. This equates to approximately 65,000 frames of film.

How is the data stored?

Data can be stored in various formats on the 35mm piqlFilm, including digital (QR codes) and visual (images). A combination of both formats can also be used.

What material is the film made out of?

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) base coated with gelatin emulsion containing silver halides. 100% recyclable.

Can it withstand environmental disasters?

Tested against extreme conditions, piqlFilm maintains integrity in environments where digital systems fail completely.

What if the reading technology becomes obsolete?

The read-back process is fully documented, ensuring future readability through open specifications.

The piqlFilm is stored in the piqlBox. The box size is 395 x 395 x 48mm

How large is a piqlFilm?

Storing critical or sensitive data?

Built to last thousands of years. The combination of format flexibility, temporal durability, and complete tamper resistance positions piqlFilm as the definitive solution for the ultimate data protection and institutional memory preservation across centuries rather than mere decades.
