The Cinevator©
The film recorder that disrupted the movie industry. An invaluable part of our heritage

Two Friends.
One Crazy Idea.
Disrupt Hollywood.
Born from an international partnership of technological visionaries, the Cinevator represents the pinnacle of collaborative engineering excellence. This groundbreaking device emerged from the collective expertise of innovators across four countries, each bringing their unique strengths to create something truly extraordinary.
At the heart of the Cinevator's development are two Norwegian technology pioneers, Rune Bjerkestrand and Bjørn Garder, who assembled a world-class team of specialists.

World's Fastest 35mm
Film Recorder
The idea behind the Cinevator® was to create the world's fastest film recorder that transfers digital images (i.e. data) to 35mm intermediate negative film. The Cinevator was 100 times faster than any other film recorder when it was launched at IBC in Amsterdam in 2004.

Modulating Digital Light
A custom-designed, high-power LED light source and DLP® imaging engine ensure superb colour fidelity and density, while a high-precision zoom lens provides print format flexibility, unsurpassed image quality on film and pixel-accurate 2K and HD imaging without digital scaling or interpolation.

Got any questions?
How fast is "real-time"?
Exactly as fast as your content. 20 minutes of film = 20 minutes of recording.
What makes the Cinevator different?
The Cinevator is not just a film recorder. It is a complete digital-to-film solution that eliminates several traditional production steps.
How many units were produced?
A total of 25 Cinevators have been sold around the world and a number of them are still in use today, making archive negatives, inter-positives and direct-to-print.
Are spare parts available to buy?
We still have the team with the expertise to service the Cinevator and we have most spare parts on stock.
Are you still selling Cinevators?
Upon serious request, we can still supply a factory refurbished Cinevator to a select few.
