Piql and SUAD Set New Standards in Digital Information Management

Piql is pleased to announce a transformative partnership with Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) aimed at modernising its Records Management and Archival Science Program. This collaboration is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in managing and preserving digital information, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

As a global leader in secure, offline data storage solutions, Piql specialises in long-term preservation of critical information. Central to our technology is piqlFilm, a high-density digital preservation medium engineered to endure for centuries. Trusted by national archives, cultural institutions, and corporations worldwide, Piql's proprietary technology ensures data integrity and immutability, safeguarding against cyber threats and environmental risks.

In parallel, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi established in 2006, stands as a beacon of international higher education excellence and innovation. SUAD is renowned for its commitment to providing a world-class education. The university offers a diverse array of programs, including the Records Management and Archival Science Program.

SUAD has invested in a state-of-the-art laboratory facility, integrating Piql’s advanced digital preservation solutions. This initiative allows students to engage directly with the latest technologies in digital preservation, enhancing their understanding and skills in managing long-term digital records.

Proscovia Svard, Associate Professor at SUAD, stated, “To intelligently solve the challenges in the digital information management environment many professions need to collaborate. Among these professions are, technology developers and the Records Management and Archival Science educators, to ensure that society safeguards its facts infrastructure through trustworthy systems that can live up to records and archives management requirements of authentic and trustworthy records and archives. SUAD’s collaboration with Piql is a development in the right direction.”

As part of this initiative, Piql has provided SUAD with licenses for its web-based software systems, piqlHive and piqlConnect, along with comprehensive training programs. These tools enable students to manage digital records efficiently, create metadata schemas, and prepare data for long-term storage on Piql’s unique preservation medium, piqlFilm.

This partnership underscores SUAD’s and Piql’s commitment to educating the next generation on the importance of managing information as a critical resource for societal development and historical preservation.
